Green mango and avocado smoothie, banana-free

Green mango and avocado smoothie, banana-free

This green smoothie is for everyone who does not like banana, or who is tired of finding it everywhere. Its creaminess comes from half an avocado, ideally frozen, and its fruitiness from a handful of mango chunks. Cucumber and coconut water lighten the whole thing, while cinnamon and turmeric add a small, unexpected touch of spice. A nicely chilled glass to start the day or to take a break in the middle of the afternoon.

Ingredients

  • 240 ml coconut water
  • 60 g spinach or baby leaves (2 large handfuls)
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1/2 avocado, ideally frozen
  • 90 g mango chunks, frozen
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 pinch turmeric powder
  • 3 ice cubes

Method

  1. Pour the coconut water into the blender jug first.
  2. Add the spinach, cucumber, avocado, mango, spices and ice cubes.
  3. Blend until perfectly smooth and serve straight away.

Tip

Cut your ripe avocados into quarters and freeze them flat on a tray before bagging them: you will always have some to hand, and they make the smoothie as cold as it is creamy. Do the same with mangoes in season, which will then keep for several months.

FAQ: your questions about the green mango and avocado smoothie

How can you replace banana in a smoothie?

Banana mainly brings creaminess and sweetness. For texture, frozen avocado is the most effective substitute, followed by frozen mango, a few soaked cashews or a spoonful of chia seeds. For sweetness, a very ripe mango or a few dates are enough. This recipe combines avocado and mango for exactly that reason.

Which fruit goes well with avocado?

Avocado, with its neutral, creamy taste, pairs well with juicy, tangy fruit that brings it to life: mango, pineapple, citrus, passion fruit, green apple or strawberries. In a smoothie, it adds body without masking the taste of the main fruit. Add a little lemon or cucumber to keep it fresh.

What smoothie can you make with mango?

Mango lends itself to almost anything: with coconut water and spinach for a green smoothie, with red berries for a tangy version, or with plant milk and vanilla for a dessert smoothie. Frozen in chunks, it also gives a thick, cool texture without needing ice cubes.
