The power of living food,
at your own pace.

Behind Biovie there is a couple, a passion and almost two decades of everyday experimenting. Since 2007 we have championed a demanding, science-based and genuinely accessible way of putting more plants on French plates.

Our core subject: seaweed and sprouted seeds. We have tamed them, studied them and cooked them for twenty years. With seaweed we pushed the exploration all the way to a book - Algues au quotidien, winner of two awards in 2025: best well-being cookbook (Académie Nationale de Cuisine) and best cookbook in the world (Gourmand Awards – seafood category). Plus a course, to take it further still.

Every product we offer is carefully selected, tested and documented. Éric decodes the science for you, so you know exactly what you are eating and why.

Our story

How Biovie began

BIOVIE starts with Eric Viard.

An agricultural engineer trained at ISTOM, Eric spent ten years working in the organic sector. Committed to protecting the environment and to natural health since the age of 15, he has eaten a plant-based diet for more than 30 years.

Discovering living food and what it did for his own health, he decided to share those benefits with as many people as possible.

In the early 2000s one thing became obvious: on one side, a French public increasingly drawn to organic, healthy food. On the other, a yawning void of concrete information

Our mission

Bringing living food within everyone’s reach.

  1. Introducing living food to as many people as possible.

  2. Making that knowledge accessible, clear and actionable.

  3. Helping everyone bring more living food into daily life, at their own pace.

A human adventure in the service of living things

Since 2005 Biovie has carved out a singular path where science, nature and teaching meet. What began as one life-changing encounter with living food has become, in twenty years, a publishing house, a school and a benchmark brand .

  1. 2005-2006

    The first courses

Eric runs two training sessions in France with the Hippocrates Wellness Institute (Florida). The interest is there, the demand is real. But one essential piece is missing: a book in French.

  2. 2007

    An idea sprouts

Eric decides to translate and publish the first living food book in France. The problem: he doesn’t have the funds. The solution: he starts a side business importing the Easy Green automatic sprouter.
BIOVIE is born, around two founding pillars: sprouting seeds and seaweed.

    The book comes out

5,000 copies of the first living food book in French see the light of day. The online business grows and diversifies, mainly in food, with a range of sprouting seeds and fresh seaweed.

    Meeting Aurélie

Aurélie, a multi-talented creator, joins Eric. Their partnership, in life as in business, brings a fresh burst of creativity.
The range widens: at the request of doctors and naturopaths looking for specific products for their patients, on suggestions from loyal customers, but above all out of their own personal story. They are the first customers of their own products.

  5. 2025

    A double accolade

Algues au quotidien, co-written by Eric and Aurélie, wins the award for best cookbook in the world (Gourmand World Cookbook Awards) and the Académie nationale de cuisine prize (best well-being book in France).

  6. 2026

    A new chapter

With the launch of BIOVIE LIVE, we pass on nearly two decades of expertise through live courses that are accessible and immediately useful.
The mission stays the same: to put more plants on French plates, one product, one course, one person at a time.

Our values

Three words behind every gesture

Three core values that Eric Viard lives out every day, and that guide every decision we make.

  • Eric and Aurélie tasting fresh coconuts

    Integrity

We only sell what we would use ourselves and give to the people we love. Every product goes through a strict selection process in concentric circles: good for us, good for our family, good for you, good for the planet.

Quality, demanding sourcing, fair trade and an eco-responsible approach guide our entire value chain.

We meet our producers in person, check production conditions and test every item before we list it. We meet our producers in person, check production conditions and test every item before we list it.

  • Meeting one of our producers

    Transparency

Our product pages detail sourcing, lab analyses and processing methods. We share our strengths and our limits alike (for example: why some products are not organic).

Transparency builds trust. We stand by our choices and explain our criteria. We meet our producers in person, check production conditions and test every item before we list it.

  • Eric examining seaweed on the shoreline

    Scientific rigor

Founded by an agricultural engineer, BIOVIE builds on solid scientific references. Our content (product pages, courses, books) cites studies, analyses and verifiable data.

Living food is not a fad: it is a nutritional approach grounded in science.

What I share,
I have lived for 30 years.

Committed to protecting the environment and to natural health since the age of 15, Eric has eaten a plant-based diet for more than thirty years. It was discovering living food, and what it did for his own health, that made him decide to share its benefits as widely as possible.

A father of four, married to Aurélie, a raw food chef with whom he co-wrote “Algues au quotidien”, he now passes on his expertise through talks, courses, books and articles - more than 500 of them published on biovie.fr.

Our standards

Biovie does the sorting

Five rigorous steps, applied to every item before it joins our catalog

  1. On-the-ground visits

We spend several months a year visiting our suppliers (Europe, Asia, the Americas).
We tour the production sites, check working conditions and assess social ethics.

  2. In-house testing

We are the first consumers of what we sell. If a product doesn’t convince us
(taste, texture, effectiveness), we don’t list it.

  3. Documentation

Our product pages are among the most complete on the market: sourcing, analyses, scientific references,
    usage tips, recipes.

  4. Scientific analysis

Systematic checks: heavy metals, pesticides, purity, nutritional profile.
    We require independent laboratory analyses.

  5. Traceability

Origin, processing, certification (organic, fair trade), transport: every step is documented.

Our commitments

5 promises, kept

Biovie sets out to be a campaigning family business at the service of living things. We proudly embody our values all along our chain of activity, and carry them out to the wider public.

  • Opening a fresh coconut

    Quality

Most of our products are certified organic (Ecocert). Where organic doesn’t exist yet (emerging supply chains), we pick the most ethical producers and work with them to build organic ones.

Our criteria: ripeness (fruit picked when ripe), minimal processing (raw, low-temperature drying), systematic testing (heavy metals, pesticides, purity).

  • Eric and Aurélie tasting coconuts

    Authenticity

We are the first consumers of the products we sell and the first users of the appliances we make.

That is your guarantee that everything we offer has been assessed and verified by us.
We know each product’s strengths and limits personally.

  • Meeting the production teams

    Social ethics

We make sure, ourselves or through third-party programs, that our products are made in decent working conditions.

Respect for people matters just as much as respect for the planet.

  • Coconut palm plantation

    Fair price & fair trade

By cutting out middlemen, we guarantee the fairest price from producer to consumer. A fair price for everyone: producers paid properly, quality guaranteed, affordability preserved.

We favor French and European products. For imports, we work in direct fair trade (tiger nuts, coconuts) and check workers’ conditions ourselves.

  • Packing Biovie orders in the workshop

    Innovation

When a product stays hard to find even though the demand is there, we build new supply chains.

We were the first in France to offer organic fresh coconuts, tiger nuts, whole aloe vera leaves, the Easy Green automatic sprouter and the Juice Me Up juicer.

Why ORGANIC matters so much to us?

In organic farming, growers have to follow a set of principles and practices, which include:

  • Using natural fertilizers such as compost, manure and green manure rather than synthetic chemical fertilizers.

  • Rotating crops to improve soil fertility and reduce the risk of disease and pests.

  • Maintaining biodiversity on the farm, notably by keeping grass strips and hedgerows as habitat for local wildlife and plants.

  • Meeting animal welfare standards, such as suitable living conditions and healthy, natural feed.

  • Managing pests and disease ecologically, by encouraging natural predators and using biological controls only as a last resort.
