We tested different varieties of mangoes and they are all so delicious that we decided to offer them to you together in a single crate.. Irwin, Osteen, and Kent: three varieties, three textures, three moments of the Spanish season - enough to compare and form your own preference.
How to tell if a mango is ripe ?
Do not rely on the color, regardless of the variety - this is the classic mistake, including with the Kent variety where the reddish-purple areas appear well before the fruit is ripe, or with the Osteen variety where the blush also appears early. The only truly reliable indicator is touch: gently press near the stem, the flesh should yield slightly under your thumb, without being mushy. The fragrance also provides a clue - a ripe mango fills the room with its aroma.
Specifically: leave your mangoes at room temperature, in the open air, without piling them up and away from the sun. To speed up the ripening process, the old trick of using a paper bag with an apple or a banana still works very well. Since your box contains a mix of different varieties—and each fruit ripens at its own pace—inspect it regularly and move each mango to the refrigerator as soon as it is ripe, rather than waiting for the entire box to be ready at the same time.
In the kitchen. Irwin, very tender and almost fiberless, is best enjoyed with a spoon or in a smoothie. Osteen and Kent, with firmer flesh and equally low in fiber, are easily worked into slices or cubes - perfect in a pea shoot salad For example. Not as good with prolonged cooking for all three: it would be a shame to spoil their aroma.
A word on the 3 varieties. TheIrwin opens the Spanish season as early as August: the earliest, the smallest (300 to 400 g), with melting flesh and almost no fibers. TheOsteen takes over from September to November: medium size (300 to 700 g), with flesh that is not very fibrous and slices well. The Kent Closes the season until the end of November: the largest of the three (600 to 750 g), with firm, juicy flesh and almost no fibers. Together, they cover almost the entire season of the Spanish mango. The exact mix in your box depends on the current harvest - expect about ten fruits for 5 kg, all varieties combined.
🥭 What the mango really contains:
1) Rich in vitamin C
The number one asset of mango, and it's a strong one: 36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g, which is 46% of the reference intake. Vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, protects cells against oxidative stress, and helps reduce fatigue.
2) Source of folates (vitamin B9)
Much less known, and yet. With 43 µg per 100 g, mango is a source of folates - a vitamin that plant-based diets generally cover well, but which is rarely in excess. Folates contribute to normal psychological function, normal blood formation, and the cell division process. They also contribute to the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy.
3) Carotenoids, including lutein and zeaxanthin
It is the deep orange color of the flesh that indicates it to you, across the three varieties: beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin. These carotenoids are the subject of numerous research studies, particularly concerning vision. Let's be honest: to date, no health claims are officially authorized in Europe for lutein and zeaxanthin. Research is ongoing, the results are interesting, but no promises can be made yet. What we can say is that mango contains them, and that's one more good reason to eat it.
4) Vitamin C increases iron absorption.
It is widely read that mango is very rich in iron. In reality, this is false: it contains very little. But - and this is much more interesting - its vitamin C, on the other hand, increases iron absorption Non-heme, the type found in plants. Specifically: mango cubes on a lentil salad or sprouted seeds, and you genuinely improve the iron absorption of this meal. It's a simple habit, and particularly useful when consuming little or no animal products.
5) Vitamin C, collagen, and skin
Vitamin C contributes to the normal formation of collagen to ensure the normal function of the skin, blood vessels, bones, and cartilage. That is well established. However, mango does not "rejuvenate" the skin and does not replace sun protection - don't listen to what is said about this.
6) A moderate glycemic index
The mango has a very sweet taste, yet its glycemic index is around 50 - a moderate GI, comparable to that of an unripe banana. Its fibers and water slow down the absorption of sugars. That said, each person reacts differently, and if you are concerned about diabetes or glycemic monitoring, talk to your doctor or dietitian rather than a commercial website.
7) Fiber, water, and real nutritional density
1.6 g of fiber per 100 g, about 83% water, 60 kcal. Frankly, as a 4 PM snack, it's hard to do better - and it's much more interesting than a chocolate bar.
A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important. The beneficial effects mentioned above are achieved with a consumption of about 200 to 300 g of mango, as part of a balanced diet.

Direct route Andalusia
We cannot be more direct from this producer in Spain, in Granada! Iulian Perseca has taken over the family business since 2018. Two generations have succeeded in cultivating various fields organically.lawyers, of papayas, of cherimoyas and other local and seasonal exotic fruits, all of excellent quality and enhanced by the sun of southern Spain.
Irwin, Osteen, and Kent were all initially selected in Florida before finding one of their best adopted lands in Andalusia. On the same plots of the Costa Tropical, they follow one another throughout the harvest - Irwin from August, Osteen from September to November, and Kent until the very end of the season - which allows us to offer you this mix for a good part of the year. The subtropical microclimate of the Costa Tropical, nestled between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean, evidently suits them all very well.
The packaging of the mango mix is 5 kilograms.
The shipment is made directly from Malaga, from the producer, via GLS. Once your package is dispatched, delivery to your home takes 2/3 business days (non-contractual). You will receive an email from the carrier GLS to inform you of the dispatch of your package with a tracking link.
If you order other products from our store, you will also need to pay the standard shipping fees for your other products: one package will be shipped from Marseille and another from Malaga. Arrival in 2 separate packages.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Irwin, Osteen, and Kent mangoes ?
The Irwin is the earliest (from August) and the smallest (300 to 400 g), with bright red skin and almost fiberless, melting flesh, best enjoyed with a spoon. The Osteen takes over from September to November: medium size (300 to 700 g), green to yellow skin with a reddish-purple blush, and slightly fibrous flesh that slices well. The Kent closes the season, until the end of November: the largest (600 to 750 g), with yellow-green skin and reddish-purple areas, firm and juicy flesh, almost fiberless. This mix allows you to compare the three in a single order.
How to tell if a mango is ripe, regardless of its variety ?
By touch and smell, never by color. The red areas or blush that appear on the skin, both on the Osteen and the Kent, are present long before the fruit is ripe. Gently press near the stem: the flesh should yield slightly under the thumb, without being soft. A ripe mango also emits a clear and sweet fragrance.
Why don't my mangoes all ripen at the same time ?
This is normal with a mixed crate: each variety has its own ripening pace, and even within the same variety, not all fruits ripen at exactly the same time. The Irwin, being softer, usually ripens first. The right approach: regularly inspect the crate and refrigerate each fruit as soon as it is ripe, rather than waiting for all of them to ripen.
How to speed up ripening ?
The kraft paper bag with an apple or a banana inside: these fruits release ethylene, which triggers ripening. Conversely, if you want to slow it down, space the fruits out in a cool, airy place away from sunlight - definitely not in the refrigerator as long as they are hard, as the cold blocks the process.
How many mangoes are in a mixed 5 kg box ?
About ten fruits of various varieties - the exact mix (proportion of Irwin, Osteen, and Kent) depends on the current harvest. We do not sort by size: the box is shipped as it comes from the orchard.
How long do they last once ripe ?
Count on about fifteen days in the refrigerator for the Osteen and Kent, both of which are firmer, compared to only 2 to 4 days for the Irwin, which has a melting and more fragile flesh once ripe. In any case, it is better to refrigerate each fruit as soon as it is ripe rather than leaving it at room temperature.
Can these mangoes be frozen ?
Yes, and it's even the best way to absorb a surplus, regardless of the variety. Cut the flesh into cubes, spread them on a tray, freeze, then transfer to a bag. The frozen cubes blended together make an instant sorbet without any additions.
What is the season of this blend in Spain ?
From August to the end of November: the Irwin opens the season, the Osteen takes over from September to November, and the Kent closes it. It is precisely because these three varieties succeed each other on the same plots that we can offer you this mix for a good part of the year. Out of season, you can fall back on our freeze-dried mangoes, which retain the essential nutrients and taste.
Is mango suitable for people with diabetes ?
Its glycemic index is moderate (around 50), and its fibers slow down the absorption of sugars, regardless of the variety. That said, each person reacts differently, and we are not doctors: if you are concerned about diabetes or glycemic monitoring, the only correct answer is that of your doctor or dietitian.
