Peach, mango and ginger pre-workout smoothie

Peach, mango and ginger pre-workout smoothie

This generous smoothie relies on fruit to see you through the time before your workout, with no coffee or stimulating drinks. The frozen mango and banana bring creaminess, the peaches freshness, and the ginger a gentle heat that wakes up the taste buds. Ready in a few minutes, it is a base you can personalise according to the fruit you have on hand.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 495 g frozen diced mango
  • 2 peaches, stoned and cut into pieces
  • 1/2 scoop plant protein powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon maca powder
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger (or the equivalent in raw ginger)
  • filtered and hydrogenated water, enough to blend

To serve

  • desiccated coconut
  • a few dried white mulberries
  • a few pieces of peach

Method

  1. Put all the ingredients in the blender with a splash of water.
  2. Blend on full power until very smooth, adding water gradually to reach the consistency you like.
  3. Pour into tall glasses and top with desiccated coconut, white mulberries and a few pieces of peach.

Tip

No protein powder to hand? This smoothie is still very satisfying without it, thanks to all the fruit. To always have what you need to make it, freeze your very ripe mangoes and peaches in pieces laid flat on a tray, then store them in a bag: they will not stick together.

FAQ: your questions about the peach, mango and ginger smoothie

Which smoothie should you have before exercise?

Before a workout, people generally favour an easy-to-digest, fruit-based smoothie rather than a drink that is very high in fat. This peach and mango smoothie, with its banana and half scoop of plant protein, fits that description. Ideally drink it 30 minutes to 1 hour before exercising and adjust the amount to your appetite: the recipe makes two large glasses.

What is the best fruit to eat before exercise?

Banana is often mentioned first, as it is easy to digest and easy to take anywhere; apple, mango and peach are good choices too. Ideally, eat them fully ripe and in moderate amounts just before exercising. This smoothie combines banana, mango and peaches in a form that is quick to drink.

How do you make a smoothie with frozen mango?

Put a little water in the blender first, then the frozen mango cubes and the other fruit, so the blades can turn without straining. Blend on full power, adding water little by little until you get the texture you want. With the 495 g of mango and the frozen banana in this recipe, the smoothie is as thick as a drinkable ice cream: leave the fruit at room temperature for 5 minutes if your blender struggles.

What is the recipe for a peach smoothie?

A simple base is to blend very ripe peaches with a banana and a little liquid, water or plant milk. For a thicker, more tropical version, add frozen mango, as in this recipe, which pairs 2 peaches with almost 500 g of mango. In high season, keep the skin on organic peaches: once well washed, it blends without any problem.
