What smoothie can you make with melon?
A really ripe melon almost does the job on its own: blend the flesh with a handful of blueberries, a teaspoon of barley grass and some chia seeds, as in this recipe. For the liquid, use filtered water, coconut water or chilled green tea. Melon also goes very well with mint, lime, strawberry or cucumber.
How can you make the most of melon?
It all starts with choosing the fruit: a melon that feels heavy for its size, is very fragrant and whose stalk comes away easily. A little lime zest, a few mint or basil leaves, or even a hint of ginger, bring out its sweetness. In a smoothie, barley grass adds a grassy note that balances its very sweet side.
How do you use chia seeds in a smoothie?
Add them straight to the blender with the other ingredients, without soaking them first: they absorb the liquid as they go. Allow about 2 tablespoons for two glasses. Drink the smoothie fairly quickly, as the seeds keep swelling and thicken it as the minutes go by.
Can you eat chia seeds without soaking them?
Yes, in small amounts, sprinkled over a bowl or blended into a drink. They do absorb a lot of liquid, however, so it is best to eat them in a moist preparation or to have a drink alongside. In this smoothie, the liquid in the recipe is enough to hydrate them.
