Ingredients

  • 1 and a half cups unsweetened almond milk (or another plant milk)
  • 1 tablespoon softened coconut butter
  • 1 and a half teaspoons honey
  • 1 and a half teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Method

  1. Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend until perfectly smooth.
  2. Pour into a saucepan and heat gently, never letting it boil, until it reaches the temperature you like.
  3. Transfer to your favourite mug and sip slowly, morning, afternoon or evening.

Tip

For a bolder version, increase the turmeric and ginger slightly. A little freshly ground black pepper, traditional in this preparation, lifts the whole thing and gives it character. And if you would rather keep the drink entirely raw, simply warm the milk without heating it through.

FAQ: your questions about the golden turmeric latte

How do you make golden milk with turmeric?

The base comes down to three things: a plant milk, ground turmeric and a fat to carry the aromas. From there you add what you like: cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, cardamom, a little honey to round it off. Everything goes in the blender, then heats gently without boiling. Allow one teaspoon of turmeric per large mug, no more to start with: the flavour is powerful.

What is the ayurvedic recipe for golden milk?

The traditional version goes through a turmeric paste: ground turmeric is simmered with a little water and black pepper until it thickens, and the paste then keeps for two weeks in the fridge. One teaspoon of that paste is enough for a cup of hot milk. The recipe here is the express version, made straight in the blender.

What is the traditional golden latte recipe with turmeric?

Golden latte and golden milk are the same drink, the first name simply being the speciality coffee version of the second. You always find turmeric, a milk (usually plant-based), a warm spice such as cinnamon or ginger, and a sweetener. The difference is mostly the foam: in latte form, the milk is frothed before it is poured.

When is the best time to drink golden milk?

It is above all a matter of habit and taste. Many people enjoy it in the evening, for its comforting side and its lack of caffeine; others at breakfast instead of coffee. It also works very well mid-afternoon. Nothing dictates a particular moment: drink it whenever you fancy something warm and fragrant.
