HYPERTONIC MARINE PLASMA FROM IBIZA

PURE

Marine plasma is sea water collected on the open sea, only cold ultrafiltered, with no other intervention.

This sea water is then packaged in 3, 11 and 20 litre bag-in-boxes made of cardboard + special food-contact high-density polyethylene (nothing to do with the PET plastic of shop-bought water bottles, see the video above).

HOW TO OBTAIN ISOTONIC MARINE PLASMA?

The formula for obtaining isotonic sea water from hypertonic sea water is as follows: mix 1/3 hypertonic sea water + 2/3 spring water.

INTERESTING CONCEPTS TO KEEP IN MIND

WHEN USING SEA WATER

Collection takes place in a very specific location: the sea water is collected on the high seas, in places favoured for their great stability in mineral composition, sites where the sea currents keep the sea water perfectly clean and with a constant salinity, where marine whirlpools form. In these places, there are large concentrations of plankton, the second largest link in the Earth's food chain, along with plants.

Sea water contains around 36 g / l of mineral salts. The most obvious and most interesting way to use sea water can be direct and controlled ingestion in the kitchen.

COMPOSITION

SEA WATER, UNIQUE AND INIMITABLE

Sea water has such a varied chemical composition that it cannot be synthesised artificially; what exactly does that mean?

Sea water cannot be manufactured, because it contains many trace elements, which means that an "industrial" or "domestic" synthesis, i.e. mixing water with salt, is in practice not the same as sea water. Such a mixture is simply salt water that does not contain the specific properties of sea water.

The salt we can generally buy does not contain all the mineral salts already dissolved in sea water. Most commercial salt loses, during processing, a large part of the components contained in sea water, through drying, refining and the addition of additives, leaving only sodium and chlorine, so ordinary salt, even of marine origin, is nothing like sea water, because it is simply sodium chloride, NACL.

EXCEPTIONAL MARINE LIFE

At these sites, the sea currents keep the sea water perfectly clean and with a constant salinity; they are also places where marine whirlpools called vortices form, which favour plankton blooms. There are large concentrations of plankton in these areas, which also benefit from significant oxygenation thanks to the posidonia seagrass meadows, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999 in the area. The Mediterranean has a higher concentration of minerals than the oceans.

The Ibiza region, which enjoys a paradise-like image, is particularly protected and has an exceptional environment where marine life is highly diverse all year round. The capture and extraction protocol, combined with ultrafiltration at 4°C and the non-use of materials likely to alter the chemical composition of the water, makes it a sea water of the highest quality, only cold ultrafiltered, with no other intervention. Our suppliers also use four methods of water quality analysis:

  • Water crystals (Masaru Emoto)
  • Dark-field microscopy
  • Mora therapy (Jean Marie Danze)
  • Bio-Well technology (Korotov)

COLLECTING MARINE PLASMA BY BOAT

Here is a video of our meeting with our Ibiza suppliers, who collect sea water by boat in the best possible conditions, which in my view come close to the recommendations of René Quinton; a priori and unless proven otherwise, only three companies in the world collect like this by boat. In addition, they use the most advanced technologies in "sensitive" water analysis, being the representatives in Spain of the Masaru Emoto foundation and the only ones in Spain to own a dark-field microscope. As for the process: the water is captured at the right moment on the high seas, in an area between 40 and 200 metres deep; the capture takes place at between 15 and 25 metres deep, in areas favoured for their great stability in mineral composition.

IN-DEPTH RESEARCH

Following our meeting with our suppliers, we were very surprised by the different existing practices for collecting sea water around the world. We look for the best international suppliers for all our products and we travel on site all over the world to see how they work, and when it does not suit us, we impose our own specifications (as for the olive wood plates, the seaweed dehydrated below 40°C, the coconuts) so that the quality is optimal. In this way we try to change producers' practices so that quality standards move towards more quality for everyone and the old standards are gradually replaced by new ones, such as dehydration at 40°C for example. According to our information, many European companies pump water from harbours, beaches, the coast, sea water desalination units, or even saline wells inland.

Our supplier collects hypertonic marine plasma by boat in areas where plankton activity is at its highest and where the posidonia seagrass meadows ensure excellent oxygenation; that said, collection in a vortex, which is the icing on the cake, is not 100% guaranteed; it may be partial or even absent when the boat arrives in these areas of very intense marine life. The reason is a practical one: vortices being of variable duration, ephemeral and random, they do not allow water to be collected for a very long time or in very large volumes. The arguments you may find here and there about collection in vortices from the shore (not by boat) deserve close examination...

A QUESTION TO ASK YOUR USUAL MARINE PLASMA SUPPLIER

Here is a very simple question to ask your usual marine plasma supplier to see things more clearly:

"How and under what conditions is your sea water collected, do you have photos or videos of your boats and your collections?"

Collection of the best quality marine plasma must take place at particular sites in the presence of high concentrations of plankton (bloom) that appear spontaneously after a few days of fine weather without wind and in certain seasons (not in summer, the water is too warm) in specific places where sea currents meet that favour the formation of mobile vortices (like cyclones). Vortices and plankton blooms are natural, ephemeral phenomena that occur in certain places only when these particular conditions come together. You have to be in the right place at the right time. A boat seems to me to be the only serious possibility for collecting in this way.

You always find a lot, a great deal of information about the location, the processing of sea water, and its many uses from the companies that sell it; I have never seen a single photo or video of a collection boat, and the exact, precise collection methods are very rarely mentioned, whereas for me these are primary and essential points.

As an agronomist, it is always these points that interest me: sourcing of the highest possible quality.

PACKAGING

The sea water is packaged in a Bag in Box, i.e. a 100% recyclable cardboard box containing a thin layer of 100% recyclable high-density polyethylene, the best plastic material in existence for food contact, which presents no harmfulness. Indeed, not all plastics are equal, and HDPE bearing the number "2" is the container that has shown the best behaviour with regard to the migration of plastic substances by leaching, thus being a safe container as long as it is protected from the sun's rays.

In its original composition, it is free of phthalates and BPA, considered along with polypropylene "5" containers as the best containers for contact with food-grade liquids. With variable volume formats of 3, 11 and 20 litres, the bag in box is a one-way system, which requires no logistics structure to recover empty containers, unlike traditional packaging (PET) and polycarbonate (PC) ) which require chemical decontamination and washing to be reused later. It generates a 20% saving in energy costs during transport; the one-way system eliminates the fuel and energy cost of the return journey, in addition to the reduction in CO2 emissions. The Bag in Box extends the life of the product by considerably reducing the manufacturing system and therefore energy consumption. The Bag in Box concept was recognised as ecological champion at the AVEX 2007 trade fair.

The air-free system guarantees total purity of the liquid down to the last drop because air does not enter the container as it is drawn off, so the possibility of contamination of the water by the introduction of ambient air inside the container is virtually nil. In this way, the period for consuming the sea water is very considerably extended once the Bag in Box is opened.

Dispensing is practical thanks to its built-in tap. This convenient system makes it easier to supply and store sea water throughout the year.

Different plastic materials that are used as food packaging and that can be found on the market as a "container" for sea water. Inform yourself; labelling is compulsory and includes a number in a triangle. The bag in boxes we use are HDPE no. 2.

COMPARISON OF PACKAGING PLASTICS

Plastic no. 1

PET: Very strongly discouraged and the cheapest

Despite this, commonly found in fizzy drink bottles, water bottles, cooking oil bottles. Risks: Can release antimony, benzene and phthalates. At certain temperatures, migration is very high and, depending on the type of "liquid", in the case of sea water, use is discouraged, because the high salinity and the solvent capacity of sea water allow migration: the migration of toxic substances from PET plastic is strongly accelerated. The main compounds released are: Antimony, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, Phthalate, Bisphenol A, Trihalomethane compounds. Using such a plastic to package sea water is simply not acceptable.

Plastic no. 2

HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene): The safest and also the most expensive

It is commonly found in packaging for milk, plastic bags, yoghurt pots, wine, oil, water, sea water. It is the material we have chosen for the Bag in Boxes.
