Coffee, cacao and coconut smoothie

Coffee, cacao and coconut smoothie

A generous smoothie that marries the depth of cacao with the sweetness of frozen banana, with a hint of coffee to wake up the palate first thing in the morning. Lucuma and maca give it body and a slightly caramel note without taking over. A few minutes in the blender are enough, and the result is like a creamy espresso in breakfast form.

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 240 ml homemade coconut milk (see tip)
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons lucuma powder
  • 1 teaspoon maca
  • 1 small cup of brewed, cooled coffee
  • cacao nibs, to serve
  • grated coconut, to serve

Method

  1. Put all the ingredients except the cacao nibs and the grated coconut into a powerful blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour into a glass, scatter with cacao nibs and grated coconut, and drink straight away.

Tip

For homemade coconut milk, blend 40 g of unsweetened grated coconut with 720 to 960 ml of water, then strain through a nut milk bag. Freeze your ripe bananas in slices on a tray: they will not stick together, and they give the smoothie its ice-cream texture without a single ice cube.

FAQ: your questions about the coffee, cacao and coconut smoothie

How do you make a chocolate and banana smoothie?

Two ripe frozen bananas, 240 ml of plant milk and a tablespoon of cacao are all it takes. The cold banana does all the work: it gives the thick texture and the sweetness, with no added sugar. Blend at full power for about thirty seconds, no longer, or the mixture warms up and loses its creaminess.

Is it good to put cacao in coffee?

The two go together very well: the bitterness of cacao extends that of coffee, and the banana rounds the whole thing off. Keep a light hand with the coffee - a small cup is enough here - so that it underlines the cacao rather than crushing it. If you make this smoothie in the evening, simply swap the coffee for a lupin drink, with no caffeine.

What is the recipe for a banana and cacao dessert?

The quickest one is instant ice cream: blend frozen banana slices with a spoonful of cacao and a splash of plant milk until you have the texture of soft-serve. For something more substantial, mash a banana with two tablespoons of cacao and two of nut butter, then chill for an hour.
