Phycocyanin powder (nicknamed Blue Magic "blue spirulina")

A natural supplement extracted from spirulina, without preservatives or added sugars. Ideal for boosting your vitality !

🔷 Phycocyanin is one of the main pigments in spirulina (Arthrospira platensis), like chlorophyll and beta-carotene. Natural blue pigment, It is what gives spirulina its characteristic blue-green color, and is the reason for the nickname "blue spirulina" and the designation "blue-green algae."

This phycocyanin is offered in pure powder, derived from fresh spirulina and extracted through a cold physical process, in an aqueous base, in order to preserve the integrity of the molecule. It is Without additives, without stabilizers, and without sweetening agents.

Phycocyanin powder is used both for its antioxidant properties and for his/her/its natural coloring power (drinks, smoothies, ice creams, raw pastries…).

🔷 How to use phycocyanin powder ?

Phycocyanin powder dissolves easily in a cold or room temperature liquid. Avoid any hot preparation that would degrade its properties.

    - To mix in a glass of fresh water, fruit juice (apple, grape, citrus), a smoothie, or lemon water.
    - Generally, prefer taking it on an empty stomach in the morning, at a time distant from drinks like tea and coffee.
    - If you find the taste strong, diluting it in fruit juice easily masks its natural aroma.

In terms of the duration of a treatment, it is generally recommended to undergo a 10-day treatment each month or at each change of season, as an immunity booster and regular support. A 20 to 30-day treatment is advised for a more lasting effect on energy, immunity, or recovery after prolonged exertion.

There are no specific contraindications regarding its effect on children. However, consult a pediatrician if you have concerns about your child's health.

Furthermore, due to its high protein concentration, the taste of phycocyanin can be surprising, and its flavor is often described as reminiscent of a broth. This natural taste is linked to its purity: no flavorings or sugars have been added.

🔷 What is the difference between phycocyanin and spirulina ?

The main difference is that spirulina is a complete superfood, rich in proteins, iron, vitamins, and minerals, ideal for overall energy support and deficiencies. Phycocyanin, on the other hand, is a concentrated extract of spirulina - it is specifically the blue pigment that gives blue spirulina its characteristic color - isolated for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It acts more quickly on immunity, recovery, and inflammations.

Moreover, phycocyanin does not contain iron, unlike whole spirulina, which is rich in iron. Therefore, it does not pose a risk of increasing iron levels in the blood, which can be an advantage for people who need to monitor their iron intake.

Note well The term "blue spirulina" is commonly used to refer to phycocyanin extracted from spirulina, usually in liquid or powder form. However, this designation can be misleading, as blue spirulina does not exist as a standalone plant or microalgae. It is actually an extract obtained from spirulina, from which phycocyanin has been isolated. Therefore, it is a specific concentrate.

In summary: spirulina for overall support, phycocyanin ("blue spirulina") for a targeted effect.

Biovie has extensively searched for a supplier of phycocyanin powder that is reliable and competitive on an international level.

🔷 Our supplier KLIFE, with whom we also collaborate for our spirulina and medicinal mushrooms, was selected after a rigorous selection process meeting our strict traceability criteria.

🔷 This phycocyanin comes from spirulina cultivated in the rural subtropical coastal region of Dongtai (Jiangsu Province, China), which benefits from nearly 2,900 hours of annual sunshine. Spirulina is produced there far from the pollution of cities and intensive agricultural areas, in a preserved environment conducive to dense biomass rich in pigments.

🔷 Biovie selected this supplier after thorough research, in line with its demanding sourcing approach led since 2007 by Eric Viard, a tropical agronomist and co-founder of Biovie. This long-standing expertise in algae and superfoods is also reflected in our publication. Seaweed in Everyday Life, awarded the Gourmand World Cookbook Award and the National Academy of Cuisine Prize.

    ❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What dose of powdered phycocyanin should be taken per day ?

The recommended daily dose is between 1 and 3 g per day. For maintenance, half a teaspoon (approximately 1.5 g) is sufficient for regular support. During an active course — for example, during seasonal changes or periods of fatigue — you can increase to a level teaspoon per day (about 3 g). Always start gradually to allow your body to adapt, then increase over a few days. Do not exceed the recommended dose. These quantities are intended as part of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Does powdered phycocyanin have the same taste as spirulina ?

The taste is different from that of classic spirulina, but it can be surprising. Powdered phycocyanin has a flavor reminiscent of broth, due to its protein concentration. This taste is a sign of a pure product, without added flavors or sugars. If it bothers you, mix it into a fruit juice (apple or citrus) — the taste then becomes almost imperceptible.

Can phycocyanin powder be mixed into a hot drink ?

No, it is not recommended. Heat degrades phycocyanin and alters its properties. Always prefer a cold or room temperature liquid: fresh water, fruit juice, smoothie, lemon water. It's a simple habit that makes all the difference.

What is the difference between powdered phycocyanin and liquid phycocyanin ?

Liquid phycocyanin maintains its molecular integrity in water, which gives it high bioavailability. The powder, obtained by drying, is more convenient for transport and storage, but its assimilation may be slightly lower. However, pure powder is often more concentrated in phycocyanin per gram and lasts longer at room temperature. Both forms complement each other depending on your habits.

Can phycocyanin powder be used as a natural colorant ?

Yes. Its intense blue pigment makes it an excellent natural food coloring for smoothies, plant-based drinks, ice creams, raw creams, or raw pastries. Just be sure to never heat it: beyond a certain temperature, its color fades and its properties degrade.

Is powdered phycocyanin suitable for children ?

There are no known specific contraindications for children. That said, as a precaution, we recommend seeking the advice of a pediatrician before giving it to a child, especially those under 6 years old. The quantities should be adjusted according to the child's age and weight. Keep out of reach of young children.

How long does a phycocyanin treatment last ?

Two common protocols: a short 10-day course each month (or at each change of season) for regular support, or a long course of 20 to 30 days for a more pronounced effect on energy and recovery. Some of our clients consume it continuously throughout the year. The initial effects are generally felt after one to two weeks.
