Pineapple, Apple and Ginger Detox Juice

Pineapple, Apple and Ginger Detox Juice

Ginger carries most of the character in this three-ingredient juice, with its sharp, warming edge keeping the pineapple from turning into pure tropical syrup. Pineapple brings a slightly grassy note beneath its sweetness, while the apples do the quiet work of thinning the juice and softening the ginger's bite so it doesn't take over. There's nothing more to it than that: three ingredients go through the juicer and the result is ready to drink within minutes, with no straining, no added sugar and no extra preparation. Since it scales up easily, it's an easy juice to batch on the weekend and portion into jars for the week, though it's best enjoyed within the following days to keep all its freshness. The colour ranges from pale gold to green depending on how ripe the pineapple is, and the texture stays fine and easy to drink rather than pulpy. It works just as well as a quick opener before a meal as it does as a stand-alone mid-morning glass, and it pairs naturally with other citrus-toned juices if you want to put together a small tasting. Served over ice, the ginger's bite comes through even more clearly.

Ingredients

  • ¾ of a small pineapple
  • 1½ apples
  • ¼ of a thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger

Method

  1. Rinse and roughly chop the pineapple, apples and ginger.
  2. Run the pieces through the juicer.
  3. Transfer the juice to an airtight container, such as a glass jar, and refrigerate. Best consumed within 3 days.

Tip

Start with less ginger than the recipe calls for if you're not used to its bite, then taste before adding more — a juicer doesn't let you take the ginger back out once it's gone through. If the juice separates in the fridge, just shake the jar before drinking: that's simply the pulp settling, not a sign it has turned. A fresh, unpasteurised juice like this one is best enjoyed within two to three days.

FAQ: your questions about pineapple, apple and ginger juice

What are the benefits of apple and ginger juice?

Ginger is well known for its digestive benefits and provides vitamin C, iron and zinc; paired with apple, it makes for a juice that's milder and easier to drink day to day than a straight ginger juice. In this recipe, that's exactly the apple's role: softening the ginger's bite without masking its character.

What are the benefits of ginger and pineapple juice?

Ginger is traditionally associated with digestive comfort, while pineapple adds its freshness and light acidity. It's this combination that gives this three-ingredient juice its appeal, designed to be drunk fresh with nothing else added.

Is it good to drink ginger juice every day?

Fresh ginger lends itself well to regular use as long as it stays diluted, as it is here with pineapple and apple, and in a reasonable amount — it's better to adjust the dose to your own tolerance than to reach for large glasses of straight ginger juice.
