This bowl brings together two flavours that get on wonderfully, chocolate and mint, on a thick base of frozen açaí and bananas. Raw carob provides the chocolatey note, chocolate mint leaves the freshness, and medjool dates are enough to sweeten it all. Blended in a few seconds, it is served in a bowl and topped like a dessert. A lovely change from a smoothie you drink, at breakfast or as an afternoon snack.

Ingredients
- 100 g frozen açaí pulp, with no additives
- 4 frozen bananas, in chunks
- 5 medjool dates, pitted
- 120 ml filtered and hydrogenated water, or coconut water
- 2 tablespoons chocolate mint leaves (or, failing that, 1 drop of pure peppermint extract)
- 1 tablespoon raw carob powder
- 1 pinch of vanilla powder
For topping, as you like
- Hulled hemp seeds, raw cacao nibs and freeze-dried strawberries
- Goji berries and freeze-dried raspberries
Method
- Put all the ingredients in a powerful blender, with the water at the bottom.
- Blend, using the tamper, until you get a smooth, thick cream. Add a little water only if the blades are spinning without catching anything.
- Pour into two bowls and top straight away, according to the mood of the moment.
Tip
No chocolate mint in the garden? A few fresh peppermint leaves do the job very well, or a single drop of peppermint extract: no more, it is powerful. If you cannot find frozen açaí pulp, replace it with 1 to 2 tablespoons of açaí powder and a handful of frozen blueberries. And for a really thick texture, slice the bananas into rounds before freezing them: they will blend much more easily.

FAQ: your questions about the açaí, carob and mint smoothie bowl
What is a smoothie bowl?
It is a smoothie that is thicker than usual, poured into a bowl and eaten with a spoon, covered with crunchy or fruity toppings. The secret of its texture lies in the frozen fruit and the small amount of liquid: here, 4 bananas and 100 g of frozen açaí for only 120 ml of water. It sits halfway between a drink and an ice cream.
What goes into an acai bowl?
An açaí bowl is based on frozen açaí pulp blended with frozen banana, a little liquid and sometimes a sweetener, then topped with fruit, seeds or granola. This version adds medjool dates, raw carob, mint and a pinch of vanilla. As for toppings, hemp seeds, cacao nibs and freeze-dried fruit bring the crunch.
What are the benefits of an açaí bowl?
An açaí bowl is above all an indulgent way to eat raw fruit at breakfast or as an afternoon snack: açaí berry, banana, dates and the fruit in the topping. It provides fibre and a good dose of energy thanks to the bananas and dates, which makes it fairly filling. Simply bear in mind that it is naturally sweet: one bowl is enough, and hemp seeds as a topping make it more complete.
