Ecofiltro 5 L white: the clay filter in its lightest version

White is the colour often chosen by people whose kitchen is already light: white worktops, pale tiles, blond wood furniture. Placed next to the sink, this container blends into the decor instead of dominating it. Together with black, it is also one of the two colours offered in both 5 L and 20 L, which means you can have two matching filters in the house.

I want to be clear on one point: the colour only concerns the outer enamel of the vitrified steel container. Inside, you will find exactly the same clay element as in the other 5 L models, with the same capacity and the same flow rate. Choosing white rather than pink or light blue is therefore a matter of taste, never of performance.

The essentials at a glance

• Volume: 5 L in total, split between 1.5 L in the clay part and 3.5 L in the lower reservoir. The right size for a household of one or two people.
• Flow rate: one or two glasses per hour at first, then up to 2 L per hour once the clay has opened up, which can take three weeks.
• Lifespan: the filter element is replaced after 2 years; the container is kept.
• Laboratory measurements: According to the Measurlabs tests published by the manufacturer (December 2024), 100% of the polystyrene microplastics tested are retained and the filter does not release any itself; long-chain PFAS (PFOS, PFOA) are reduced by about 99%, short-chain PFAS by only 55 to 75%; 13 of the 14 drug residues tested fall below the detection limit; in June 2025, 99.9% of the E. coli and coliform bacteria tested were retained.

A white designed for bright kitchens

In a very bright room, a dark appliance quickly becomes the focal point. White stays more discreet, especially next to tiles or a sink of the same shade. The filter is 30 cm high and 22 cm in diameter and weighs only one kilo when empty: it fits in a corner of the worktop, with no cable and no connection to the plumbing. The tap is made of stainless steel, which goes well with chrome fittings.

White in 5 L, white in 20 L: two sizes that match

Many customers start with the small size, then realise that the family drinks more than expected, or want to equip a practice or an office as well. The 20 L model is also available in white. It is 47 cm high and 35 cm in diameter, holds 5 L in the filter and 15 L in the reservoir, and is suitable for three people or more. The filtration principle is identical, as is the two-year interval before replacing the clay.

What the clay does, in a few words

Water poured in at the top slowly passes through the filter wall by simple gravity. The fired clay has pores of 0.8 micrometres at most: solid particles, bacteria and parasites remain trapped. The activated carbon, made from heated sawdust, reduces odours, taste and turbidity. The colloidal silver, applied after firing, completes the whole. Limescale is not removed, but its level drops markedly.

The analyses published by the manufacturer for May 2023 show complete removal of cadmium, lead, mercury and manganese, 63% for arsenic and 26% for fluoride. I am giving you these figures exactly as they appear in the reports, without rounding them.

Setting up and maintenance

On delivery, place the clay element in the container holding it by its rims, fill it to the top and never let it dry out again. The first batches of water may have a slight earthy taste: pour them away, then taste until this taste disappears. After that, every six months, take the filter out, scrub it with a sponge reserved for this purpose and clean water, without any soap, and let it dry in a sheltered place under a clean cloth. The white container, the lid and the tap, for their part, are washed with a brush and a little soap. An Ecofiltro maintenance kit is available in the shop.

Delivery by the manufacturer

To limit the handling of a clay object, the Ecofiltro is shipped from the manufacturer's warehouse, in a parcel separate from your other Biovie purchases. Delivery costs are included and shipments are possible to mainland France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
