Ecofiltro 5 L pink: a water filter that embraces colour

Some people prefer a water filter to go unnoticed. Others, on the contrary, like it to bring a touch of colour to a white, grey or wooden kitchen. This pink model exists for them. It sits happily alongside pastel crockery, cement tiles or a shelf where jars are on display.

Beneath this shade, nothing changes compared with the other models of the same size. The clay element is the same, the capacity remains 5 litres and the flow rate is identical. The pink only dresses the outside of the vitrified steel reservoir: your choice is about looks, not about the quality of the water you get.

The essentials at a glance

• Who it is for: a household of one or two people, with 5 L of storage (1.5 L at the top in the clay, 3.5 L at the bottom).
• How long: allow 2 years before replacing the filter element.
• What flow rate: very slow at the very beginning (one to two glasses per hour), it gradually rises towards 2 L per hour in about three weeks.
• According to the Measurlabs tests published by the manufacturer (December 2024), 100% of the polystyrene microplastics tested are retained and the filter does not release any itself; long-chain PFAS (PFOS, PFOA) are reduced by about 99%, short-chain PFAS by only 55 to 75%; 13 of the 14 drug residues tested fall below the detection limit; in June 2025, 99.9% of the E. coli and coliform bacteria tested were retained.
• How to look after it: a wash every six months, with clean water only for the clay.
• How it arrives: directly from the manufacturer, with no extra delivery charge.

Colour in the kitchen

An object you use several times a day deserves to be a pleasure to look at. The pink of this container stays soft: it does not shout, it warms up a corner of the worktop. At 30 cm high and 22 cm in diameter, the filter fits on a small surface, and its weight of about 1 kg when empty makes it easy to move for cleaning underneath. The stainless steel tap adds a metallic touch that balances the colour.

As it works without electricity and without any connection, you can put it wherever you like: near the sink, on a sideboard, or even in another room. The only condition is a flat, stable surface, with the tap overhanging the edge so you can fill a glass or jug. An Ecofiltro wooden stand can also be used to raise it.

A useful gift idea

Pink makes this filter a gift that gets noticed when the box is opened, for a housewarming, a first flat or someone who wants to buy less bottled water. A small practical point worth knowing: the parcel leaves from the Ecofiltro warehouse and not from us, so it arrives separately from any other Biovie order. If you have it delivered directly to the recipient, let them know they should check the condition of the box on arrival.

Three natural layers, no motor

The principle is old and well tried: tap water flows down through fired clay with pores no larger than 0.8 micrometres. The activated carbon built into this wall acts on taste, odours and turbidity. A layer of colloidal silver, applied after firing, serves as secondary protection. The filter greatly reduces limescale without removing it completely. It is not suitable for salt water or hot water.

First days and maintenance

When unpacking, handle the clay element by its edges, never by the bottom. Fill it to the brim to moisten the whole wall, then always keep it with water in it. The first litres often taste of clay: pour them away, that is normal. For cleaning, plan a session every six months: a dedicated sponge and pure water for the clay, a brush and soap for the pink container, the lid and the tap.

How we discovered it

We came across the Ecofiltro during a trip, at a rural market. What struck me first was the object itself; then the quality of filtration achieved with such a simple material, using no energy and recyclable. It was developed in Guatemala as part of a development mission.
