Ecofiltro 5 L Mint Green: A Soft Color, An Energy-Free Filter
Mint green is a calm shade. It is often found in kitchens with plants on the windowsill, light wood, off-white, or linen. It brings freshness without clashing and is suitable for both a small apartment and a country house.
Important note before choosing: this color is just a cover. The mint green enameled steel reservoir houses the same clay filtering element as the five other colors of the 5 L format. Volume, filtration speed, and lifespan are exactly the same.
The Essentials in Brief
- Household Size: one to two people.
- Storage: 5 L, with 1.5 L in the filtering part and 3.5 L available at the tap.
- Rate: slow in the first few days, then about 2 L filtered per hour after a break-in period of up to three weeks.
- Replacement: the clay is replaced every two years.
- Analyses: According to Measurlabs tests published by the manufacturer (December 2024), 100% of tested polystyrene microplastics are retained, and the filter does not release any itself; long-chain PFAS (PFOS, PFOA) are reduced by about 99%, short-chain ones by only 55 to 75%; 13 of the 14 tested drug residues fall below the detection threshold; in June 2025, 99.9% of tested E. coli and coliform bacteria are retained.
- Cleaning: at least twice a year.
- Delivery: by the manufacturer, shipping included.
A Format Designed for Small Households
The 5 L is the format I recommend for a single person or a couple. Its dimensions (30 cm in height, 22 cm in diameter) make it easy to fit, even in a kitchenette or studio. It weighs only about 1 kg when empty. The best practice is to refill the upper part as soon as it empties, to always have a ready reserve.
It requires neither a plug nor a water connection: place it on a flat surface, tap overhanging, or on the Ecofiltro wooden stand to more easily fill a bottle or carafe.
After Two Years: A Filter That Returns to the Garden
This aspect goes well with this vegetal color. When the clay element reaches the end of its two years, you replace it with a new filter sold separately, and the old one doesn't necessarily end up in the trash. You can turn it into a flower pot, use it as drainage at the bottom of your planters, or break it into small pieces to mix with the soil. If not, it joins organic household waste. The enameled steel container, meanwhile, continues to serve.
Operation Summary
Three materials work together in the filter wall. The fired clay, with pores of 0.8 micrometers at most, retains solids, bacteria, parasites, and microplastics. The activated carbon takes care of taste, odors, and color. The colloidal silver, applied after firing inside and out, completes the filtration. Initially, the measured silver release is around 40 ppb. Lime is significantly reduced, though not eliminated.
Starting Well, Maintaining Well
Place the clay in the container by holding it firmly by its edges. Fill it completely, close the lid, and wait a few hours. Discard the first waters as long as a clay taste is present. Every six months, or more often if your water is hard, rinse the clay with a dedicated sponge and water only; the mint green container is washed with soap and a brush, as are the lid and tap.
A BCorp Certified Company
Ecofiltro became a socially responsible company in 2009 and obtained BCorp certification in 2020. Its model is simple: what it earns in more affluent markets is used to equip poorer regions with filtered water. Concretely, 33,751 filters were thus provided to 6,210 schools from 2014 to 2022. Choosing this mint green for your kitchen also supports this operation.
A Customer Review
