In 2 to 7 days, your sprouted seeds are ready.
Designed and manufactured by Geo Bavicchi, our Italian supplier of sprouting seeds since 1896.
Ideal for beginners. Seeds sold separately.
🌱 The Geo Jar sprouter is the simplest and most economical germination method available - a glass jar, a mesh lid, and clear water. You put the seeds in, soak them overnight, rinse them morning and evening, and drain the jar upside down on its stand.
You may have already seen these jars filled with small green sprouts on a kitchen countertop. The concept has existed for decades, and for good reason: it works. In 2 to 7 days, depending on the variety, you can harvest your fresh sprouts - alfalfa, lentils, radishes, fenugreek, broccoli. It's honestly the ideal entry point into raw food, the one through which many of us have started.
Designed and manufactured by Geo Bavicchi, Our historic Italian supplier of sprouting seeds (a family business established in 1896 in Perugia, Umbria), the Geo Jar neatly finalizes this proven concept: a real food-grade glass jar, a stainless steel screw-on lid with a fine mesh, a ceramic base, and a metal stand that holds the jar tilted, upside down, for drainage. No motor, no electricity, no programming. You rinse, you drain, nature does the rest.
✓ The simplest and most economical method : a jar, seeds, water. You can start today without investing in a device.
✓ Noble materials in contact with food : glass, stainless steel, and ceramic. The lid and the grid are made of stainless steel. No plastic in direct contact with your seeds, for a product that is used every day.
✓ Ingenious upside-down drainage : the stand keeps the jar tilted on its ceramic base. The water drains naturally, the seeds breathe, and the risk of stagnation and mold is minimized.
✓ Compact and discreet : the jar takes up very little space and fits in any kitchen, even a small one.
✓ Hygienic and easy to clean : the jar and grid rinse in a few seconds, the stainless steel lid disassembles effortlessly.
✓ Delivered in a gift box : the Geo Jar comes in a lovely box, with instructions printed in five languages (Italian, English, German, French, Spanish). A perfect gift idea to introduce a loved one to living food.
✓ For all ages : from 0 to 99 years old, as Bavicchi says. Sprouting is also a small living experience to share with children.
✓ Transparent sector : designed and manufactured by Geo Bavicchi in Italy, in the same company that has been selecting our organic seeds for almost 130 years.
⚠️ Important: the Geo Jar is not suitable for mucilaginous seeds.
Some seeds (flax, arugula, cress, mustard, basil...) form a gel when they come into contact with water. In a jar, this mucilage sticks to the grid and prevents proper drainage, leading to poor germination. For these seeds, a suitable substrate and watering method are necessary. Consider using a tray sprouter or our... Easygreen sprouters equipped with a dedicated mat.
The principle is simple, and that is precisely its strength. The Geo Jar consists of three elements : a glass food jar, a stainless steel grill lid which screws on top, and a set consisting of a ceramic base and a metal stand. You place your seeds in the jar, screw on the mesh lid, fill it with water, and let it soak. Once the soaking is complete, you rinse through the mesh - the water passes through, the seeds remain - then you place the jar upside down, tilted on its stand, above the ceramic base.
This inclined position is the main advantage of the system: the rinse water drains completely into the ceramic base, the seeds are never submerged in stagnant water, and air circulates through the grid. In germination, however, Oxygen often matters as much as water.. Seeds that breathe mean less mold and more consistent sprouts.
It is one of the simplest home-grown cultures that exist.
1. Day 1 - the soaking. Pour your seeds into the jar (count about 1 to 2 tablespoons of small seeds, the exact amount is indicated on the back of each packet). Screw on the mesh lid. Fill with clear water, filtered if possible, until the seeds are well covered - at least three-quarters of the jar. Let soak for 8 to 12 hours.
2. Rinse and drain. Drain the soaking water through the grid and rinse thoroughly. Then place the jar upside down, tilted on its metal stand placed on the ceramic base. The remaining water drains into the base. Set the assembly on a flat surface at room temperature (18 to 25 degrees C), away from direct light and heat sources.
3. The following days - rinse morning and evening. Fill the jar with clear water, leave it for 1 to 2 minutes, then drain it again upside down. This action rehydrates the seeds and accelerates germination. Repeat at least twice a day (morning and evening), and more if the seeds appear dry. Shake gently with each rinse to distribute the seeds evenly.
4. Harvest. In 2 to 7 days, depending on the variety, your sprouted seeds are ready. Take them out of the jar, rinse them one last time, and enjoy. You can also store them in the refrigerator, where they will continue to grow very slowly. And there you go.
- To start, choose easy and quick seeds: alfalfa, fenugreek, lentils, radish. They forgive hesitant beginnings and sprout in a few days.
- Oxygen is your ally. Do not overcrowd the jar: it's better to have a reasonable layer of seeds than a jar filled to the brim where air can no longer circulate.
- Keep the jar well tilted upside down between rinses, so that no water stagnates at the bottom.
- Harvest just before consuming: that's when freshness and vitamins are at their peak.
- Between two cultures, rinse the jar and the grid with clear water and mild soap, then dry before restarting.
You know us: at Biovie, we have been offering sprouters since the store was established in 2007. The Easygreen Light and The Easygreen Sol remain our references for those who want to produce volume without thinking about it. But we were missing one thing: a really well-made sprouting jar, for those who simply want to start or return to the basics.
The Geo Jar ticks all the boxes for several reasons:
- The coherence of the sector. Our organic seed supplier since the beginning of the Biovie adventure is also the designer of this sprouter. You buy the seeds and the sprouter from the same Italian family business, designed to work together.
- Respect for materials. Glass, stainless steel, ceramic. For an object that we use every day to produce fresh food, this is not a minor detail.
- Absolute simplicity. No electricity, no engine, no parts to replace. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a daily reflex.
- The price. It is, frankly, the cheapest way to start with germination. The best option to test before possibly moving on to an automatic sprouter one day.
The jar works wonderfully with the vast majority of classic sprouting seeds, those that do not form mucilage. Among our favorites:
- Legumes : alfalfa, fenugreek, lentils, chickpeas, mung beans, azuki beans. Easy, quick, economical.
- Cereals and pseudo-cereals : wheat, barley, quinoa, buckwheat. Perfect for short germinations.
- Non-mucilaginous cruciferous plants : broccoli, radish, red cabbage. Spicy and packed with nutrients.
- Oilseeds : shelled sunflower. Crunchy and delicious.
Conversely, we avoid mucilaginous seeds in the jar (flax, arugula, watercress, mustard, basil) which require a dedicated substrate and equipment. All our sprouting seeds are organic, selected from Geo Bavicchi, and guaranteed with a germination rate of over 95%. You can discover in our organic sprouting seeds section - more than 20 varieties, plus packs and mixes to experiment with.
It's a question we are often asked now that we offer several sprouters. The answer can be summed up in one sentence: they do not serve exactly the same purpose. Here is something to help you find your way:
| Criterion | Geo Jar (jar) | Easygreen Light / Sol | Geo Smart Greens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type of culture | Sprouted seeds (sprouts) | Sprouted seeds (sprouts) | Microgreens (young shoots) |
| Getting started | The simplest - to start | Automatic, for everyday use | Culture on substrate |
| Necessary substrate | No | No (except mucilaginous seeds) | Yes - ceramic pellets |
| Watering | Manual (rinse 2x/day) | Misting (Light) / siphon (Soil) | Capillarity (from below) |
| Harvest cycle | 2 to 7 days | 2 to 7 days | 10 to 21 days |
| Energy | None | Electric (Light) / none (Ground) | No (gravity + capillarity) |
| Mucilaginous seeds | Not suitable | Yes, with substrate | According to variety |
| Ideal for | Start, small budget, small space | Produce continuously without thinking about it | Young shoots to be cut with scissors |
Concretely: if you want to explore germination without investing, or simply keep an active jar on the countertop, the Geo Jar is perfect. If you consume sprouted seeds every day and want to forget about rinsing, take a look at theEasygreen Light or of theEasygreen Sol. If it's the chefs' microgreens that you're craving, you should turn to the Geo Smart Greens sprouter. Many of our customers end up using several systems in parallel to have the entire range at their disposal.

Yes, completely. The Geo Jar is a 100% passive system that relies on gravity for drainage. No pump, no motor, no connection. You can install and move it anywhere in your kitchen.
All classic non-mucilaginous sprouting seeds: alfalfa, fenugreek, lentils, chickpeas, mung beans, azuki, wheat, barley, quinoa, broccoli, radish, red cabbage, sunflower... However, the jar is not suitable for mucilaginous seeds (flax, arugula, cress, mustard, basil), which require a substrate.
Some seeds release a gel (mucilage) upon contact with water. In a jar, this gel sticks to the mesh and blocks drainage, causing water to stagnate and promoting mold growth. These seeds are grown on a substrate that holds them in place while allowing air to circulate.
It depends on the variety: 2 to 7 days on average. Radish, alfalfa, and fenugreek are among the fastest (2 to 4 days). Larger legumes take a bit more time. With a germination rate of over 95% for our seeds, you have every chance on your side.
Remove the lid and the grid, rinse the jar and the stainless steel grid with clear water and mild soap, then dry before starting a new culture. It should take only a few minutes, no more. The ceramic base should be rinsed separately.
